Bedroom Bliss
Transforming a tired, drab, and uninviting bedroom into a feel-good retreat unique to you (and your significant other, if you have one) might seem challenging. But all it takes is imagination and resourcefulness to give your bedroom a little “bliss.” Let your style emerge naturally. Here are some helpful tips I have found useful when designing my bedroom.
Design your room with multi-purpose in mind. Create zones where you can rest, read, chat with friends, and get the courage to face the world. Think about what music, books, and films you enjoy. Are you passionate about a particular era or culture? Let your interests inspire your style.
If you have changeable tastes, keep the wall color neutral and make a statement with bold colors. Add great art that speaks to you. I find some of my best art at flea markets and used home decor stores.
Repurpose existing furniture. For example, maybe some of the furniture in your living room would look lovely if you switched it to your bedroom. Think about changing drawer handles and light shades or hanging vintage frames. Repaint a bedroom chest or wardrobe to complement your new color palette.
Choose a mix-and-match of textiles for bedding, curtains, throw pillows, rugs, etc. Different patterns and contrasting colors add interest. I love organic sheets and fabrics, and keep the toxins out of your bedroom - use only non-toxic candles in your environment.
Don't forget your ceiling. What could you do to see a marvelous delight of color on your ceiling as you open your eyes each morning?
Let your bedroom reflect all aspects of you. After all, it is your sacred space after a long day’s work.
